Annotation
In her current work, Ms. Mahaffy looks at the broader issue of how effective the Canadian Bail Reform Act and its subsequent amendments have been in improving the bail setting process in that country.
Abstract
She points out what the practical impact of the law has been and suggests recommendations for change that she believes would strengthen the existing legislation and close 'loopholes' that exist. Readers will find some of the recommendations, such as the abolition of money bail, virtually identical to those advocated by many authors who have examined the U.S. system. (Publisher abstract)
