NATURE AND EFFICIENCY OF PRESENT RECRUITMENT POLICIES AND PRACTICES, RESIGNATIONS, RECRUITMENT EFFORTS, AND REMEDIAL ACTION FOR REDUCING TURNOVER ARE EVALUATED.
Abstract
METHODS AND RESULTS OF A SURVEY, WITH STATISTICS ON FACTORS RELATING TO RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION, ARE PRESENTED. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GIVEN ON LONG-TERM RECRUITING, EXPLOITATION OF EFFECTIVE RECRUITING, COST EFFECTIVENESS, TRAINING RECRUITS, AND ANALYSIS OF RECRUIT STRUCTURE. RECOMMENDATIONS RELATING TO MORALE AND RETENTION INCLUDE TRAINING PROGRAMS, SHIFT ROTATION, MINIMIZING BURDENS OF COURT APPEARANCES, IMPROVING POLICE IMAGE, SALARY AND DUTY STUDIES, AND A PROGRAM OF COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE RANKS.
