PREVENTION PROGRAMS SHOULD BE USED FOR THE JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDER RATHER THAN SENDING HIM THROUGH THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
INCARCERATION HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE MORE DETRIMENTAL THAN HELPFUL TO THE JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDER. THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS THAT THESE OFFENDERS SHOULD BE TREATED IN COMMUNITY BASED DIVERSION PROGRAMS. COMMENTS ARE MADE ON REALITIES OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM WHICH CAUSE OR CONTRIBUTE TO ITS HARMFUL EFFECT ON STATUS OFFENDERS. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT JUVENILE STATUS BE ABOLISHED.
