AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN 1964 WHO HELPED FOUND PROJECT NEWGATE, AN INMATE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR TRACES THE GROWTH OF HIS CAREER THAT FLOWERED IN THE ARMY WHERE, AT EIGHTEEN, HE HEADED A DARING BLACK MARKET OPERATION THAT PLUNDERED MUNICH'S DEPOTS. DISHCARGED FROM THE ARMY, HE LAUNCHED A CAREER OF FRAUD, BURGLARY, AND OTHER CAPERS. FOLLOWING A TWO YEAR STRETCH IN A REFORMATORY, MR. SHOBLAD ELOPED WITH THE HEIRESS TO A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR FORTUNE. AFTER HIS MARRIAGE FELL APART, THE AUTHOR BECAME THE LEADER OF THE FAMED SILK STOCKING BANDITS--THIS PERIOD ENDING WITH HIS LIFE SENTENCE. WHILE SERVING HIS SENTENCE RICHARD SHOBLAD REALIZED HIS UNEXPLORED POTENTIAL FOR GOOD AND HELPED FOUND PROJECT NEWGATE. THE AUTHOR PROVIDES MANY CANDID COMMENTS CONCERNING OUR REHABILITATION SYSTEM.
