This two-disc CD-ROM provides information and guidance for judges in understanding domestic violence cases and making pretrial decisions in such cases.
Abstract
Disc 1 provides a notebook that contains written summaries of the keynote address by Attorney General Janet Reno and a seminar presentation. The keynote address focuses on the relevance of addressing domestic violence issues. The seminar presentation by a leading judicial educator in the field of domestic violence provides an overview of the various manifestations of domestic abuse and factors related to it. Disc 1 also contains a "kiosk," which presents State and national statistics on domestic violence and provides facts from research on domestic violence. In addition, disc 1 contains a "Gallery," which displays photographs of real-life scenes of domestic violence. When the user clicks on the "Seminar" section of disc 1, he or she can ask any or all of the specified questions covered in the seminar address. An image of the speaker appears to present the portion of the address that deals with the user's question. Based on the seminar presentation, the user must successfully complete a quiz before receiving a password to enter disc 2 for the "Case Workshop." The Case Workshop takes the user through a simulated case of domestic violence in which the user, as the judge, must decide whether or not to grant pretrial release to the alleged abuser.
