The Regional Director of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs discusses several aspects of drug abuse in the United States. In this inservice training aid for police officers, he introduces each category of abused drugs and defines their dangers.
Abstract
Drugs are defined as chemical substances which either stimulate or depress the central nervous system. The categories of drugs described are stimulants (hallucinogenic drugs and amphetamines) and depressants (tranquilizers, barbiturates, and opiates). The most commonly abused drugs are marijuana, LSD, and heroin. These drugs are detailed in terms of their history, the various forms, related effects, and environments. Actual forms of the drugs are shown. Following the discussion is a question and answer panel with a psychiatrist, a police captain, and other law enforcement officials.
