Drug testing of police officers has become a major source of friction in the employer-officer relationship and often has to be settled in the State and Federal courts.
Abstract
The recent US Supreme Court decision regarding drug testing has not ended the debate over acceptable procedures and justifications. Governmental actions to test law enforcement officials may still be judged on a case-by-case basis, but should be planned to balance government interests and individual rights. Various approaches are being taken by State and Federal courts faced with these competing concerns. 15 references. (Author abstract modified)
