NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE HAVE ESTABLISHED A SPECIAL BRANCH OF THE NARCOTICS DIVISION TO COMBAT THE INCREASED USE OF SMALL AIRCRAFT TO SMUGGLE DRUGS ACROSS THE MEXICAN BORDER FOR DISTRIBUTION IN THIS COUNTRY.
Abstract
THE AIR DETAIL IS SUPPORTED BY EFFECTIVE COORDINATION AMONG FEDERAL AND OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. IT GIVES RESIDENT AGENTS IMPROVED EQUIPMENT AND KNOWLEDGE FOR INCREASED SUCCESS IN APPREHENSIONS. THE AGENTS' RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE CONDUCTING MAJOR INVESTIGATIONS OF HIGHLY ORGANIZED GROUPS INVOLVED IN AIR DRUG TRAFFICKING AND MAINTAINING CLOSE LIAISON WITH AIRCRAFT LEASING AND RENTAL COMPANIES AS WELL AS AIRPORTS.
