This CD-ROM contains seven lessons for military law enforcement personnel regarding the composition, forms, effects, and signs of abuse for commonly abused drugs in America.
Abstract
The course contains seven lessons that pertain to drug terminology and law, depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, cannabis, steroids, and inhalants. The objectives of the first lesson on drug terminology and law are to define basic drug terminology, to apply the law of the Controlled Substances Act, and to describe how the United Court of Military Justice (UCMJ) interprets the Controlled Substances Act. The second lesson, which features depressants, is designed to help students identify opium and opiates; identify production, means of ingestion, effects, and signs of abuse of opiates; identify non-narcotic depressants; and identify production, means of ingestion, and signs of abuse of non-narcotic depressants. The third lesson, which pertains to stimulants, has the objective of identifying cocaine hydrochloride, including production, methods of ingestion, effects, and signs of abuse. The fourth lesson, which pertains to hallucinogens, is designed to assist students in identifying types of hallucinogens and in identifying their production, means of ingestion, effects, and signs of abuse. The fifth lesson, which focuses on cannabis, has the objectives of identifying the cannabis plant and identifying the production, means of use, and symptoms of abuse of cannabis products. The sixth lesson addresses steroids and has the objectives of identifying anabolic steroids, medical uses and schedule, and physical signs of abuse. The final lesson provides information on inhalants, with the objectives of identifying types of inhalants, describing methods of ingestion, and identifying the health hazards of abuse and the signs of abuse. The CD-ROM also contains resource descriptions and a final exam.
