Abstract
THE STUDY FOCUSED UPON THREE OBJECTIVES - 1) LOCATING AND DESCRIBING RECENT EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING PROGRAMS TO PROVIDE SKILLED MANPOWER FOR PRACTICE IN CORRECTIONS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT, 2) IDENTIFYING THE SITE, DIRECTION, AND SCOPE OF CHANGES PLANNED IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR CORRECTIONS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND 3) DETERMINING THE NATURE AND ORGANIZATION OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND RESEARCH WHICH ARE ADVOCATED FOR CORRECTIONS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT UNDER CONDITIONS ALLOWING INNOVATION AND EXPANSION. THIS VOLUME IS CONCERNED WITH THREE KINDS OF TRAINING PROGRAMS - 1) IN-SERVICE TRAINING - PROGRAMS WHICH CONSIST OF A SCHEDULED SERIES OF TEACHING SESSIONS THAT ARE ORGANIZED AND CONDUCTED UNDER THE SOLE AUSPICES OF THE RESPONDING SYSTEM, 2) GENERAL TRAINING - PROGRAMS CONDUCTED BY THE CORRECTIONAL OR LAW ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM OTHER THAN IN-SERVICE TRAINING, AND 3) OUTSIDE TRAINING PROGRAMS CONDUCTED BY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS IN WHICH THE RESPONDING SYSTEM PARTICIPATES EITHER AS A CO-SPONSOR OR BY PROVIDING ARRANGEMENTS FOR ATTENDANCE OF THEIR STAFF.
