FORMATS FOR LEADERS ARE PROVIDED FOR EACH WORKSHOP IN A SERIES DESIGNED TO STIMULATE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE CAUSES OF CRIME AND SOCIETY'S RESPONSES TO IT.
Abstract
INTENDED FOR ADULT OR HIGH-SCHOOL AGED GROUPS, THE WORKSHOPS DEAL WITH THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: ATTITUDES ABOUT CRIME; ARREST; THE COURT SYSTEM; ALTERNATIVES TO IMPRISONMENT; AND HUMAN NEEDS AND CHRISTIAN RESPONSES. THE WORKSHOP ON 'HUMAN NEEDS AND CHRISTIAN RESPONSE' PROVIDES A SERIES OF MODEL WORSHIP SERVICES FOR THE BENEFIT OF GROUPS INTERESTED IN APPROACHING THEIR RESPONSE TO THE ISSUES FROM A SPECIFICALLY CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE. THE OTHER WORKSHOPS, THOUGH CONSIDERED TO BE UNDERGIRDED BY AN ETHICALLY ORIENTED RESPONSE TO ISSUES OF JUSTICE, ARE BELIEVED SUITABLE FOR USE BY ANY GROUP, REGARDLESS OF RELIGIOUS ORIENTATION. EACH SECTION OF THE LEADER'S GUIDE BEGINS WITH ASSUMPTIONS THAT UNDERLIE THE WORKSHOPS INCLUDED. THESE PROVIDE THE LEADER WITH THE ESSENTIAL CONTENT OF THE EMPHASES OF EACH WORKSHOP, THE GUIDE ALSO PROVIDES: OBJECTIVES FOR EACH WORKSHOP; THE TIME SPAN FOR EACH ACTIVITY WITHIN A TOTAL TIME OF 1 HOUR FOR EACH WORKSHOP; THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SETUP AND THE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR EACH WORKSHOP; THE STEPS TO BE TAKEN BY THE LEADER IN DIRECTING THE MOVEMENT OF THE WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES; THE DEBRIEFING AND EVALUATION FOR EACH WORKSHOP; AND THE ACTION POSSIBILITIES IN WHICH THE GROUP MIGHT PARTICIPATE TO IMPLEMENT SOME OF THE CONCERNS DEVELOPED WITHIN EACH WORKSHOP.
