WIND TUNNEL TESTS INDICATE THAT ROOF SIGNS CAUSE LOSS IN PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY AND INCREASE IN FUEL CONSUMPTION.
Abstract
WIND TUNNEL TESTS WERE CONDUCTED INDIVIDUALLY ON EACH OF THREE CARS FITTED WITH COMBINATIONS OF SPOTLIGHTS AND LARGE AND SMALL ROOF SIGNS MOUNTED IN VARYING POSITIONS. THE TESTS UTILIZED A TURNTABLE AND AERODYNAMIC BALANCE AND SIMULATED DRIVING SPEEDS OF 40 MPH. RESULTS, DISPLAYED GRAPHICALLY, INDICATE PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION ATTRIBUTABLE TO SUCH DEVICES, PARTICULARLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
