This paper examines the impact of an intervention consisting of four job preparation workshops, an intensive 3- day outdoor adventure, and seven family skill-building workshops on 22 juvenile probationers' self-concepts, internal versus external locus of control, and perceptions of juvenile justice.
          Abstract
This intervention took place in Michigan and was compared to traditional probation services for 23 juvenile offenders. The research used a two-factor experimental pretest-posttest design. Results indicated that the intervention did not achieve its intended effects, as measured by self-report scales. Although the outcomes of Project Explore were disappointing, the research should be used to guide continued program development and evaluation rather than being interpreted to mean that a similar intervention would produce equally discouraging outcomes.
