A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE DEALING WITH TRENDS IN WORKER MIGRATIONS IN EUROPE AND THE UNITED STATES AND WITH PATTERNS OF CRIMINALITY AMONG MIGRANTS AND EMIGRANTS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR FIRST PRESENTS A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE CRIMINOLOGICAL STUDIES DEALING WITH CRIME AMONG EMIGRANTS. STUDIES DEALING WITH THE PSYCHOLOGICAL ADAPTATIONS OF WORKERS MOVING TO OTHER COUNTRIES OR FROM RURAL TO URBAN AREAS ARE THEN EXAMINED. THE PROBLEMS OF WORKERS MOVING FROM RURAL TO URBAN AREAS, WORKERS MOVING FROM ONE EUROPEAN COUNTRY TO ANOTHER, AND WORKERS RETURNING TO THEIR NATIVE COUNTRY ARE EXAMINED IN TURN. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO PATTERNS OF CRIMINALITY AMONG EUROPEAN MIGRANTS. THE MAJORITY OF STUDIES REVIEWED IN THIS REPORT INDICATE THAT CONTRARY TO PREVAILING OPINIONS, THE RATE OF CRIMINALITY AMONG EUROPEAN MIGRANT WORKERS TENDS TO BE LOWER OR EQUAL TO THAT OF LOCAL WORKERS. BASED ON THIS LITERATURE REVIEW, THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT EXISTING KNOWLEDGE ON THE PROBLEM OF MIGRATION AND CRIMINALITY IS ONLY MARGINALLY APPLICABLE TO THE EUROPEAN SITUATION. HE CALLS FOR A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF THE PROBLEM OF CRIMINALITY AMONG EUROPEAN MIGRANT WORKERS. --IN SPANISH
