Abstract
Persons sentenced to probation between January 2, 1980, and June 30, 1981, were randomly assigned to one of eight experimental and control groups after being classified according to the Wisconsin risk and needs assessment scale. Severely psychotic offenders, serious sex offenders, and offenders sentenced to more than 10 days of jail work release were excluded from the evaluation. The data files are the Reassessment file, the Admissions/Termination file, and the Chronological file. Cases in Reassessment and Admissions/Terminations files contain data on individual probationers. There are 84 variables for 1,343 cases in the Reassessment file and 218 variables for 1,922 cases in Admissions/Terminations file. This report presents the codebooks for these files as well as the client risk assessment scale, the needs assessment form, and coding sheets. The Chronological file contains records of probation agent contacts with probationers over the course of the study. The codebook for this file is also included.
