INTERIM REPORT WHICH DESCRIBES EACH OF THE SEVEN PROGRAMS IN TERMS OF THE ORIGINAL GRANT CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS AND OF THE MANNER IN WHICH IT HAS BEEN ORGANIZED TO MEET THOSE REQUIREMENTS.
Abstract
THE SEVEN COUNTY CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES PARTICIPATING IN THESE PROGRAMS, AND THEIR AREAS OF CRIME IMPACT CONCENTRATION, ARE AS FOLLOWS: GARY POLICE DEPARTMENT (RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY); HAMMOND POLICE DEPARTMENT (RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY); LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT (RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY); EAST CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT (AUTO THEFT); LAKE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT, JUVENILE COURT DIVISION (INCREASED PROBATION STAFF; INTENSIVE PROBATION CASELOADS FOR RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY AND AUTO THEFT); LAKE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT, CRIMINAL COURT DIVISION (SAME AS FOR JUVENILE COURT DIVISION); AND LAKE COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE (INCREASED PROSECUTORIAL STAFF TO HANDLE 10 TO 15 PERCENT CASE SUBMISSION INCREASE). DURING THE FIRST YEAR, EACH OF THE PROGRAMS IS INTENDED TO LEVEL THE RATE OF INCREASE OF THE SPECIFIED TARGET CRIME TO ZERO PERCENT AS COMPARED TO THE BASE YEAR 1972. DURING THE SECOND YEAR, EACH PROGRAM IS ANTICIPATED TO SHOW A REDUCTION OF FIVE PER CENT. A TOTAL REDUCTION OF A 20 PER CENT RECOVERY RATE IN THE CASE OF RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY. EACH PROGRAM IS REPORTED SEPARATELY.
