TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR MALE JUVENILE DELINQUENTS.
Abstract
IN AN EFFORT TO DEAL WITH SOME DELINQUENT CASES, TREATMENT PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED FOR MALE WARDS OF THE JUVENILE COURT BETWEEN THE AGES OF 10 AND 14 WHOSE PROBLEMS IN RELATION TO HOME AND SCHOOL ADJUSTMENT WERE SUCH THAT A BRIEF REMOVAL FROM THE HOME, TOGETHER WITH WORK WITH THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES OUTSIDE OF THE HOME, APPEARED TO BE NECESSARY. THIS WAS NOT WITHOUT RESISTANCE AS IT WAS WELL RECOGNIZED THAT PROBABLY THE MOST DIFFICULT GROUP TO TREAT WAS THE YOUNG ADOLESCENT. PART OF THE BELIEF BEHIND THIS IS THAT THEY ARE TOO OLD TO UTILIZE THE TRADITIONAL PLAY THERAPY APPROACH AND YET TOO YOUNG TO SUSTAIN VERBAL THERAPY.
