PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR THE POLICE OFFICER AND POLICE-SCIENCE STUDENT TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION, AND PRESENTATION OF EVIDENCE.
Abstract
THE COMPETENT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER KNOWS THE VALUE OF EVIDENCE IN CRIMINAL PROSECUTIONS AND RECOGNIZES HIS OWN NEED FOR A THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS WHICH GOVERN THE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION AND PRESENTATION OF EVIDENCE. WHILE PLACING EVIDENTIARY CONSIDERATIONS WITHIN THE OVERALL FRAMEWORK OF TRIAL PROCEDURE, THE AUTHOR GIVES PARTICULAR EMPHASIS TO THOSE AREAS OF INTEREST AND IMPORTANCE IN DAILY POLICE WORK, SUCH AS SEARCHES AND SEIZURES, THE EXCLUSIONARY AND HEARSAY RULES, CONFESSIONS AND ADMISSIONS, AND THE USE OF PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. SEPARATE CHAPTERS TREAT THE TOPICS OF WITNESS TESTIMONY AND PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE AND A FINAL CHAPTER DISCUSSES THE ROLE OF THE OFFICER AS AN EFFECTIVE WITNESS IN COURT. TO ENHANCE ITS VALUE AS A PRACTICAL EVIDENCE HANDBOOK, EACH CHAPTER CONCLUDES WITH A SET OF QUESTIONS WHICH REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHT THE CHAPTER MATERIAL. (SNI ABSTRACT)
