Abstract
'THE HYPOTHESIS THAT FACTORS WHICH MAY HELP REDUCE THE UNCERTAINTY AND CONFLICT INHERENT IN THE POLICE ROLE WILL INCREASE FEELINGS OF JOB SATISFACTION WAS GENERALLY CONFIRMED. THE SECOND HYPOTHESIS, THAT AS OFFICERS REPORTED MORE JOB SATISFACTION THEY WOULD ALSO REPORT THINKING ABOUT ASPECTS OF THEIR ENVIRONMENT WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO CONFLICT AND UNCERTAINTY, RECEIVED SUPPORT AMONG OLDER OFFICERS-THOSE 33 YEARS AND OVER BUT WAS NOT SUPPORTED AMONG YOUNGER OFFICERS AGED 32 YEARS AND BELOW.'
