CONTACT COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION IS SURVEYED AS RELATED TO POLICE AND MUNICIPAL AGENCIES IN GENERAL, AND THE POLICE AND NON-POLICE AGENCIES IN PARTICULAR.
Abstract
MAINLY THROUGH INTERVIEWS WITH POLICE OFFICIALS, PLANNING DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER MAJOR AGENCIES THE COMMUNICATIONS NETS OF FOUR CITIES - LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, NEW ORLEANS AND DETROIT - WERE ANALYZED AND COMPARED. INFORMATION GENERALLY REVEALS THE RELATIVE LACK OF INTERAGENCY COMMUNICATIONS. THE STUDY RECOMMENDS THE CONDUCT OF SIMILAR RESEARCH ON THE PRECINCT OR DISTRICT LEVEL, A DEMONSTRATION IN POLICE PARTICIPATION IN CITY PLANNING AND URBAN RENEWAL, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SAFETY WELFARE AGENT DESIGNED TO COORDINATE THE ACTIVITIES OF OTHER MUNICIPAL AGENCIES WITH FUNCTIONS SIMILAR TO THOSE OF THE POLICE.
