PRESENTATION OF THE GENERAL PLAN FOR IMPLEMENTING THE AUTOMATIC FINGERPRINT SEARCHING PORTION OF THE AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM (AIDS).
Abstract
AIDS IS A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM PLANNED TO EVENTUALLY PROVIDE FOR AUTOMATIC FINGERPRINT SEARCHING, COMPUTERIZED NAME SEARCHING OF THE CRIMINAL NAME INDICES, COMPUTER STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL OF ARREST RECORD DATA, AND THE CAPABILITY TO GATHER CRIMINAL STATISTICS AND SYSTEM PERFORMANCE DATA. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE FUTURE EXTENSIONS OF THE FBI'S TECHNOLOGY, INCLUDING THE AUTOMATIC SEARCHING OF LATENT CRIME SCENE FINGERPRINTS AND REMOTE FINGERPRINT READER TERMINAL DEVICES THROUGH WHICH STATE AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES COULD OBTAIN ON-LINE FINGERPRINT SEARCHES ON THE FBI'S COMPUTERIZED NATIONAL FINGERPRINT FILE.
