A WOMAN'S BEST DEFENSE AGAINST RAPE IS THE SELF-CONFIDENCE AND COURAGE THAT SELF-DEFENSE TRAINING CAN PROVIDE - EVEN IF IT IS NEVER USED, THE WOMAN WITH SUCH TRAINING IS LESS LIKELY TO BE VICTIMIZED.
Abstract
THIS FILM SHOWS WOMEN IN MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING AND ALSO FEATURES ON-THE-STREET INTERVIEWS. THE MESSAGE OF THE FILM IS UNCLEAR AS TO THE BENEFITS OF ENGAGING IN COMBAT WITH ONE'S ASSAILANT. SOME INTERVIEWEES SAY THAT THAT IS A GOOD WAY TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED, WHILE OTHERS ASSERT THAT IT IS A GOOD DEFENSE. AT ANY RATE, THE TRAINING ITSELF SEEMS TO BE OF SOME VALUE IN OVERCOMING THE WOMAN'S PASSIVELY ACQUIESCENT ATTITUDE TO ANY KIND OF PHYSICAL ASSAULT. BY CHANGING HER DEMEANOR TO PRESENT AN AIR OF NON-PASSITIVITY, THE WOMAN CAN AVOID SENDING OUT 'VICTIM VIBRATIONS'.
