CURRENT COURT OPINION ON WHAT CONSTITUTES CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT AS DETERMINED IN FURMAN V GEORGIA (1972) IS REVIEWED AND NEW STATUTES ENACTED BY STATES IN COMPLIANCE WITH COURT GUIDELINES ARE EXAMINED.
