Data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms covers guns manufactured in the United States for 1973-1985.
Abstract
Total production for each year is broken down by shotguns, revolvers, pistols, and rifles; and the percent of total production for each firearm type is presented. Long gun production is provided for each year along with the production of shotguns and rifles as a percentage of total long guns manufactured. Data also cover total handgun production and pistols and revolvers as a percentage of total handguns. Other data cover handgun production by calibers, and pistol, revolver, and handgun production and exports. Handgun production by manufacturer is listed for various periods. Overall, approximately 25,600,000 handguns were produced by U.S. manufacturers in 1973-1985. The three leading handgun manufacturers produced 58 percent of the total. 7 tables, 25 graphs.
