DESCRIBES PROGRAM BY THE ALBION, CHIGAN POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SAVE ON GAS AND STILL MAINTAIN ADEQUATE PATROL FUNCTIONS.
Abstract
THE PLAN INVOLVES INCORPORATING MORE FOOT PATROLS AND RESTRICTING THE MILEAGE OF PATROL CARS. IT WAS FOUND THAT PATROL VEHICLE MILEAGE CAN BE REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY WITHOUT AN ADVERSE EFFECT UPON THE CITIZEN'S SERVICE IF IT IS A PLANNED OPERATION. A SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS CAN BE REALIZED ON GAS CONSUMPTION BY PATROL UNITS. THE COST FACTOR HAS RISEN UNDER THE DESCRIBED PLAN, BUT NOT NEARLY AS SHARPLY AS IT WOULD HAVE IF NO PLAN HAD BEEN FORMULATED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
