REPORT ON A STUDY, USING THE ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM, OF A GROUP OF 105 FRENCH, MALE JUVENILE DELINQUENTS AND A CONTROL GROUP OF 105 MALE STUDENTS AT AN OCCUPATIONAL SCHOOL.
Abstract
A SPECIAL EFFORT WAS MADE TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL INDIVIDUALS WERE BETWEEN 16 AND 18 YEARS OLD. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE STUDY HAD ESTABLISHED A SYSTEM FOR CLASSIFYING TRACES INTO FOUR GROUPS. THESE FOUR GROUPS ARE DISTINGUISHED PRIMARILY BY THE FACT THAT THE FIRST TWO CAN BE CONSIDERED NORMAL AS COMPARED WITH THE OTHER TWO. THE FIRST HAS ALL THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ADULT TRACE. THE SECOND INVOLVES A LATENESS IN MATURING THAT CAN BE FOUND WITH SOME FREQUENCY AMONG A GROUP OF WELL-ADJUSTED PEOPLE. THE LAST TWO GROUPS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY ANOMALIES APPARENTLY CONNECTED WITH MORE PROFOUND DISTURBANCES. IT IS ONLY IN THESE TWO GROUPS THAT ONE FINDS POSTERIOR LOW-FREQUENCY WAVES, AND IT CAN THUS BE SEEN THAT THAT CHARACTERISTIC DERIVES ALL ITS IMPORTANCE FROM THAT FACT. THE STATISTICAL METHODS USED ARE PRESENTED IN AN APPENDIX. --IN FRENCH
