REPORT ON A SURVEY AMONG DUTCH LAW STUDENTS OF THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARD A CAREER IN THE JUDICIARY.
Abstract
IN ORDER TO START A JUDICIAL CAREER, SPECIAL POST GRADUATE TRAINING FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS IS REQUIRED. SIX HUNDRED STUDENTS WERE ASKED TO RESPOND TO A QUESTIONNAIRE. RESULTS INDICATE THAT NOT THE CAREER ITSELF, BUT SELECTION CRITERIA INVOLVING A PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST AND AN APPEARANCE BEFORE A SELECTION BOARD ARE THE CHIEF IMPEDIMENTS. FURTHERMORE, STUDENTS WITH A POLITICALLY PROGRESSIVE ATTITUDE WERE LESS INTERESTED IN A JUDICIAL CAREER. --IN DUTCH
