SUPREME COURT DECISION WHICH HELD THAT JUVENILES HAVE CERTAIN FIFTH AND SIXTH AMENDMENT RIGHTS IN DELINQUENCY PROCEEDINGS.
Abstract
THE BACKGROUND FOR THE DECISION IS LAID BY A BRIEF EXAMINATION OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE STATES. THE DECISION ITSELF GUARANTEED MINORS RIGHTS TO A NOTICE OF CHARGES, COUNSEL, CONFRONTATION AND CROSS-EXAMINATION OF ADVERSE WITNESSES, AND AGAINST SELF-INCRIMINATION. THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE RULING FOR JUVENILE COURT PROCEEDINGS ARE ANALYZED.
