Abstract
THE REPORT REVIEWS THE OBJECTIVES OF PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES IN ANY CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM AND GIVES THE HISTORY OF PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES IN THE CANADIAN PENITENTIARY SERVICE. IT FORMULATES THE REQUIREMENTS FOR PROVIDING ADEQUATE PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES IN THE SPECIFICALLY CANADIAN SETTING. VARIOUS ALTERNATIVES ARE CONSIDERED AND NUMEROUS RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE AS TO HOW SUCH SERVICES MIGHT BE EFFECTED. THE REPORT EVALUATES THE COST-BENEFIT EFFECTIVENESS OF PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES.
