This article explores various interoperability options utilized by State and local law enforcement agencies across the country in the construction of interoperable public safety networks that brings together audio, data, and video capabilities.
In recent years, technology has made great strides to address the growing need for strengthened interoperable systems in communities and regions nationwide. The combination of audio, data, and video capabilities within interoperable systems can improve communications while rendering greater collaborative decisionmaking and quicker response time as well as streamlined workflow and improved public safety efficiencies. Several State and local, such as Santa Clara, CA; Mendocino County, CA; and Grand Rapids, MI have adopted or instituted public safety network options within their agencies and departments. This article explores the development of public safety networks within each of these agencies which promote interoperability, broadband access, and more effective communications among first responders and emergency response systems.
