This video describes the Girl Scouts program for the daughters of inmates at the women's correctional institution at Jessup, Md.
Abstract
The video portrays segments of the Girl Scouts program, which is held at the institution at specific times when the daughters come to visit their mothers. In interviews with the inmates, they express their favorable responses to the program and its positive impact on their daughter's character and the inmate's parenting. The inmates are shown working with their daughters in Girl Scouts activities. Counselors help the inmates improve their parenting skills in the context of Girl Scouts activities. By having the program at the institution where the inmates' daughters can become familiar with the institutional environment, their anxiety about how their mothers are treated at the institution is reduced.
