Abstract
This article contains 74 of the 142 abstracts from papers presented at the Global Addiction Conference held in Lisbon, Portugal in December 2011. The papers presented at the conference deal with a variety of addiction issues including burnout among addiction area professionals, the use of disulfiram in treating adolescents with alcohol dependence, therapists' impact on the effectiveness of substance abuse treatment, the relationship between stress and alcohol and tobacco consumption during pregnancy, and the examination of smoking behaviors in Romanian adults. Additional topics covered at the conference include patterns of early alcohol consumption among children, service user perception and client waiting times in a community substance misuse service, psychological variables as risk factors in alcohol dependence, psychotherapeutic treatment of cocaine addiction, and prevention of prescription opioid abuse. Other papers cover topics such as hangover and the risk of stroke in middle-aged men, alcohol and drug use among assault injured youth, the consequences of increased benzodiazepine use, and comorbidity of depression among opioid users. The remaining 68 abstracts related to this conference were published in the August 2012 issue of this journal, volume 56, issue number 2.
