Abstract
TWENTY RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE AREAS OF LEGISLATION, ENFORCEMENT, EDUCATION AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING RESULTED FROM THE FOUR-MONTH STUDY. THE RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE BANNING ALL HANDGUNS EXCEPT THOSE FOR USE BY THE POLICE AND MILITARY, STRICT LICENSING OF HANDGUN OWNERS, MANDATORY REGISTRATION OF HANDGUNS AND VOLUNTARY REGISTRATION OF RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS. SUGGESTIONS FOR STRICTER ENFORCEMENT OF EXISTING LAWS AND STRICTER FEDERAL LAWS ARE ALSO MADE. IT IS FURTHER RECOMMENDED THAT NON-LETHAL WEAPONS FOR HOME PROTECTION BE DEVELOPED. THE NEED FOR GREATER ATTENTION TO CRIME REDUCTION BY STATE AND LOCAL PLANNING AGENCIES IS ALSO STRESSED.
