This series of three videocassettes presents mediation sessions involving two mediators and a separated couple facing conflicts, including physical abuse, in their continuing contacts.
Abstract
The conflict between the disputants, Mr. and Mrs. Hale, centers in Mr. Hale's continuing physical abuse of his wife and his taking property from her apartment. At the initial mediation sessions, each of the parties presents his/her side of the dispute and discusses what he/she seeks as the outcome of the mediation. After airing the dispute with both parties, the two mediators meet alone to discuss mediation strategy and decide to talk with each of the parties alone to try and move each one toward a reasonable agreement. The mediation illuminated differences between the parties and eventually produced an agreement signed by both parties.
