INTERVIEW WITH WERNER UEBE, HEAD OF THE POLICE TECHNICAL COMMISSION OF THE WEST GERMANY STATE OF LOWER SAXONY, WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MOST OF THE TECHNICAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WORK FOR THE WEST GERMAN POLICE.
Abstract
THE TECHNICAL COMMISSION IS LOCATED IN HANNOVER. IT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE FIELDS OF MOTOR VEHICLES, COMMUNICATIONS, WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT, HELICOPTERS AND THE PREPARATION OF TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS. HOWEVER, THE WEST GERMAN POLICE ACADEMY AT HILTRUP WILL APPARENTLY TAKE OVER THIS RESPONSIBILITY OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. IT HAS ALREADY TAKEN OVER RESPONSIBILITY FOR TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY. ON THE OTHER HAND, CRIMINAL POLICE TEHCNOLOGY IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WEST GERMAN FEDERAL CRIMINAL POLICE BUREAU IN WIESBADEN. THE TECHNICAL COMMISSION IN HANNOVER HAS RECENTLY BEEN WORKING ON DEVELOPING A NEW POLICE CAR OFFERING BETTER PROTECTION TO ITS OCCUPANTS AND THE PROBLEM OF A MOTORCYCLISTS'S HELMET PROVIDING FULL PROTECTION FOR THE WEARER BUT STILL ALLOWING HIM TO COMMUNICATE SATISFACTORILY. --IN GERMAN
