This annual report of the Chief Inspector of Prisons for Scotland focuses on areas of development during fiscal year 1992-1993.
Abstract
The first section highlights the work of the Inspectorate, describing staff, inspections, reports, thematic study, methodology, and training. The section on staff and management covers communications, staff training, staff facilities, agency status, and marketing testing and privatization. The chapter on regimes discusses employment and wages, clothing and visits. Support services described in this report include medical and psychological services, social work, chaplains, services for ethnic minorities, and the responsibilities of the equal opportunities officer and the early release liaison officer. The Inspector is also responsible for visiting Legalized Police Cells (LPCs). In his recommendations, the Chief Inspector calls for close monitoring of the delivery of training services by the central Training and Organizational Development Support Unit, and for more clearly defined standards for hygiene checks and food handling.
