This study used a sample of 303 children and their caretakers recruited from inner-city schools in order to examine spouse violence against mother as a risk factor for child psychopathology.
Abstract
The analysis was conducted in the context of other potential risk factors including low socioeconomic status, parental drinking problems, parental divorce, child abuse or neglect, child foster placement, and parental incarceration. The results showed that a family history of violence against mother was associated with several other risk factors, specifically frequent family moves, parental alcoholism, and parental divorce. Violence against mother was statistically significant in its relationship to self-reported conduct problems in girls but did not account for unique variance in boys' symptomology. 3 tables and 59 references
