A FIVE TO SIX YEAR FOLLOW-UP STUDY OF 100 PATIENTS WHO MADE HOMICIDAL THREATS.
Abstract
THE INCIDENCE OF POTENTIAL PREDICTORS OF HOMICIDE AMONG THREE MATCHED GROUPS WERE EXAMINED FOR HOSPITAL PATIENTS WHO MADE HOMICIDAL THREATS, CONVICTED CRIMINAL HOMICIDE OFFENDERS, AND A CONTROL GROUP OF HOSPITAL PATIENTS WHO HAD NO HISTORY OF HOMICIDAL BEHAVIOR. THE PROVOCATIVE ROLE OF THE VICTIM IS ILLUSTRATED BY NUMEROUS CLINICAL EXAMPLES. PRACTICAL GUIDANCE IS PROVIDED FOR THE EMERGENCY PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION OF PERSONS WHO MAKE HOMICIDAL THREATS. MEDICO-LEGAL ASPECTS AND THE PREVENTION OF HOMICIDE ARE REVIEWED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
