This document presents the 2010 Annual Review of the Hong Kong Correctional Services.
Abstract
Highlights from the 2010 Annual Review of the Hong Kong Correctional Services include: in 2010, 9,108 adult males were sentenced to prison, while 5,423 were remanded to custody; 4,686 adult females were sentenced to prison, while 1,835 were remanded to custody; adult offenders in custody are required to work 6 days a week, and young offenders are required to participate in a program based on a half day of education and a half day of vocational training; and treatment for drug addiction is provided by 1 drug treatment center and 2 correctional institutions, with treatment lasting 2 to 12 months that combines work and therapy aimed at correcting criminal behavior and ridding individuals of drug dependence. This report contains an overview of the work of the Hong Kong Correctional Services for 2010 and is presented in both English and Chinese. The report contains seven sections that cover Operations and Institutional Management, Rehabilitation, Industries and Vocational Training, Human Resource Management, Quality Assurance, Administration and Planning, and Green Management.
