THE TECHNIQUES, COMPOSITION, TRAINING, AND THREE-YEAR PERFORMANCE RECORDS OF THE NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT'S HOSTAGE RECOVERY UNIT ARE REVIEWED.
Abstract
IN THREE YEARS OF OPERATIONS THE UNIT HAS HAD NO HOSTAGES OR HOSTAGE TAKERS KILLED DURING NEGOTIATIONS. THE ARTICLE EXPLAINS THE UNIT'S COURSE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL, PHYSICAL AND WEAPONS TRAINING, AND DESCRIBES HOW THE UNIT COORDINATES WITH THE STREET PATROL, THE EMERGENCY SERVICE UNIT (SPECIAL WEAPONS), AND, WHEN NECESSARY, THE FBI.
