Annotation
Intended to provide readers the opportunity to identify with the various roles of a law enforcement officer, this volume presents 49 case vignettes depicting common situations that police personnel encounter and asks the reader to make decisions regarding the nature, causes, and outcome of the situation and the actions the police officer should take.
Abstract
The roles presented range from police patrol officer to chief of police in police agencies ranging from small-town police departments to metropolitan agencies. In cases in which State laws may affect a situation's outcome, the reader should try to apply a particular State's law. Each of the book's seven sections deals with a particular area of concern to law enforcement personnel: (1) police-community relations, (2) family and crisis intervention, (3) police- juvenile relations, (4) police interactions with persons who are emotionally disturbed, (5) police occupational stress, (6) police ethics, and (7) police administration and supervision. 19 references
