GOALS AND FORMAT OF THE HUMAN RELATIONS WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED FOR THE CADRE UNITS AT THE FORT RILEY, KANSAS ARMY CORRECTIONAL TRAINING FACILITY (CTF).
Abstract
THE ARMY'S CTF PROVIDES THE TRAINING AND THE IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE NECESSARY TO RETURN MILITARY OFFENDERS TO DUTY SO THAT THEY WILL EVENTUALLY RECEIVE AN HONORABLE DISCHARGE. WORKSHOPS WERE CONDUCTED BY CTF'S SOCIAL WORK BRANCH TO ENHANCE THE COMMUNICATION AND COUNSELING SKILLS OF THE CTF UNITS' CADRE MEMBERS, BOTH OFFICERS AND NCO'S. THE APPROACH USED WAS ONE OF TEACHING INDIVIDUALS TO LEARN FROM THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES TO INCREASE UNDERSTANDING OF THEMSELVES AND OF OTHERS. MOST WORKSHOPS CONSISTED OF SMALL DISCUSSION GROUPS WHICH PROVED EFFECTIVE IN ACHIEVING THE ESTABLISHED GOALS. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SUBSEQUENT WORKSHOPS EMPHASIZED THE USE OF SMALL (20-25) VOLUNTARY GROUPS. THESE CAN BE PLACED IN AN ENVIRONMENT RELATIVELY FREE OF DISTRACTIONS, FOLLOWING A PROGRAM WHICH ALLOWS SUFFICIENT FLEXIBILITY OF CONTENT.
