Abstract
This third edition of the book The Human Skeleton in Forensic Medicine is intended for use by forensic anthropologists and forensic pathologists whose work includes the analysis of skeletons found in forensic contexts. The book contains numerous updates as a result of the changes that have occurred in the field of forensic sciences and forensic anthropology. The book also has a new global perspective in order to make is useful for practitioners around the world. The book is divided into 12 chapters that cover the following topics: (1) Introduction, (2) Forensic Archeology and Taphonomy, (3) Skeletal Age, (4) Sex, (5) Ancestry, (6) Stature, (7) Dental Analysis, (8) Bone Pathology and Antemortem Trauma, (9) Perimortem Trauma and Thermal Destruction, (10) Facial Approximation and Skull-Photo Superimposition, (11) DNA Analysis in Forensic Anthropology, and (12) Forensic Anthropology of the Living. The information in the book includes detailed discussions on crime scene investigations, time interval since death, human or animal remains, mass graves, and preparation of remains. Where applicable, case studies are included in the chapters to illustrate the diverse aspects of the work of forensic anthropologists and forensic pathologists.
