Reports and resolutions from the November 1981 General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization-INTERPOL deal with such issues as international drug trafficking, international currency counterfeiting, traffic in stolen vehicles, the identification of disaster victims, and violent crimes.
Abstract
The progress report of INTERPOL covers relations with countries; Executive Committee meetings; international criminal cases; dangerous drugs; training courses, symposia, and studies; the International Criminal Police Review (official publication of INTERPOL); external relations; and working methods and resources. Amounts of world seizures of various illicit drugs are documented, and a resolution of the General Assembly requests the continued study of the financing of illicit drug trafficking and the holding of an international seminar to exchange information on effective drug enforcement techniques and strategies. Seizures of counterfeit currencies of various countries are noted. Brief mention is given to INTERPOL work in dealing with trafficking in stolen vehicles, civil aviation security, crimes of violence, the identification of disaster victims, the creation of an international institute of criminalistics, international police cooperation, and electronic data processing. Various continental meetings are outlined, and accounts are given of the meeting of the heads of National Central Bureaus and the program of activities for 1981-82. A list of countries, territories, and observers attending the General Assembly is provided.
