TWO LEGISLATIVE ACTS WHICH EXPAND THE PROTECTIONS AFFORDED TO JUVENILES IN DELINQUENCY PROCEEDINGS AND IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
Abstract
AMENDMENTS TO THE JUVENILE COURT ACT ADDED PROCEDURAL SAFEGUARDS TO BOTH ADJUDICATORY AND DISPOSITIONAL HEARINGS. THE DISPOSITIONAL ALTERNATIVES OF JUVENILE COURTS ARE LIMITED IN CASES INVOLVING MINORS WHO COMMIT JUVENILE STATUS OFFENSES. MINIMUM STANDARDS ARE ESTABLISHED FOR THE TREATMENT OF JUVENILES IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS WITH REGARD TO PROGRAM ASSIGNMENT, INTRADIVISIONAL TRANSFERS, TRANSFERS TO MENTAL INSTITUTIONS, DISCIPLINE, AND GRIEVANCES.
