Abstract
THE INCARCERATION WAS IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA'S YOUTH CENTER, A TREATMENT-ORIENTED INSTITUTION FOR YOUTHS AGED 18-26 YEARS. TO SECURE DATA FOR THE SERIES OF STUDIES, THE YOUTHS WERE INTERVIEWED DURING THEIR FIRST MONTH AT THE YOUTH CENTER, AT THE MID-POINT OF THEIR TERM, AND NEAR OR SHORTLY AFTER RELEASE. METHODOLOGY, INMATE PERCEPTIONS INSTITUTIONS AND STAFF, DISCUSSION, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE REPORTED. STATISTICAL DATA IS INCLUDED.
