This study compared 11 incarcerated female sexual offenders with 11 incarcerated female nonsexual offenders in terms of their own prior sexual and physical victimization experiences and sexual histories.
Abstract
Results showed that female sexual offenders were more likely to have been sexually abused as children, suffered a higher incidence of physical abuse, and reported an earlier initiation of sexual behavior than women imprisoned for nonsexual offenses. The results also showed that prior victimization prevented sexual satisfaction in adulthood among women in both groups. The sexual offenders showed a great deal of denial and minimization regarding their crimes, denied having atypical sexual fantasies, and had been inhibited in normal childhood and adolescent sexuality. The study also showed a high degree of psychiatric impairment among the female sexual offenders. 2 tables and 22 references
