DESCRIPTION OF DEMONSTRATION PROJECT DESIGNED TO TREAT AND REHABILITATE JAIL INMATES AS WELL AS DETER YOUTH FROM A LIFE OF CRIME.
Abstract
AFTER COVERING THE PERSONNEL AND FACILITIES INVOLVED IN THE INMATE SERVICES AREA OF THE PROJECT, THE REPORT OUTLINES THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS PROVIDED FOR THE INMATES OF THE ALACHUA COUNTY JAIL. THE PROGRAMS INCLUDE EDUCATION, COUNSELING, WORK RELEASE, OUTDOOR RECREATION, AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING. MENTION IS MADE OF THE COMMUNITY SERVICES PHASE OF THE PROJECT WHICH INVOLVES WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY YOUTH IN RECREATIONAL AND DRUG INFORMATION PROGRAMS. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED WHILE CONDUCTING THE PROJECT ARE REVIEWED WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR THEIR SOLUTIONS BEING PROVIDED. OVER HALF OF THIS DOCUMENT IS COMPRISED OF AN APPENDED REPORT OF AN EXPERIMENT AIMED AT DETERMINING CRIMINAL OFFENDER PREFERENCE FOR THE TYPE OF COUNSELING HE WILL RECEIVE. (SEE NCJ007248)
