Abstract
A MODEL CORRECTIONAL UNIT WAS DEVELOPED AT THE FEDERAL YOUTH CENTER AT ASHLAND, KENTUCKY. YOUTHS RANGING IN AGE FROM 16 TO 22 WERE ASSIGNED TO THE SPECIAL G UNIT ON A SPACE-AVAILABLE BASIS. THE TREATMENT TEAM CONSISTED OF A PSYCHIATRIST, A CASEWORKER AND THE UNIT SUPERVISOR. EMPHASIS WAS PLACED ON THE OFFENDER'S INTERACTIONS WITH THE STAFF AND OTHER UNIT RESIDENTS. GROUP MEETINGS WERE HELD ON A REGULAR BASIS AND EACH INDIVIDUAL WAS ENCOURAGED TO EXPRESS HIS FEELINGS AND CONCERNS. THE STAFF ALSO MET REGULARLY TO DISCUSS GROUP PROBLEMS AS WELL AS PLAN INDIVIDUAL TREATMENT PROGRAMS.
