Abstract
THE CONGRESS WAS ATTENDED BY DELEGATES FROM ARGENTINA, BELGIUM, WEST GERMANY, CANADA, EAST GERMANY, EGYPT, HUNGARY, ITALY, YUGOSLAVIA, POLAND, RUMANIA, CZECHOSLOVAKIA, THE U.S. AND THE USSR. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED INCLUDED THE RESOCIALIZATION OF OFFENDERS, HUMANE PRACTICES IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE, THE UNDESIRABILITY OF SHORT-TERM IMPRISONMENT AND ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF PUNISHMENT. IN GENERAL, THE RESOLUTIONS STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HUMANE APPROACH AND OF THE SEARCH FOR MEASURES TO REPLACE IMPRISONMENT AS SANCTION. --IN DUTCH, SECTIONS IN ENGLISH
